Infusion New Year Roundup

February 7th, 2013 · No Comments

The Infusion team can look back on 2012 with great pride – it was an exciting year with many challenges and great successes.  Various bespoke projects for clients including Massmart, Shoprite, The National Institute for the Deaf, eighty20, FNB, Sanlam and PEP were executed and the continued support from such valuable clients is immensely appreciated.

The partnership with the Centre for Democratising Information (CDI) saw the culmination of the first large scale Community Capability Study (CCS) completed in 2012.  This unique study rolled out in five provinces with 190 focus group discussions conducted among poor communities as well as 3440 household surveys.  The CCS sets out to operationalize Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach and is the first large scale study that uses the Capability Approach to explore resources, agency, conversion factors, and deprivations in nine dimensions (Democracy, Culture and Tradition, Education, Employment, Health, Media, Money, Technology, Unemployment). CCS was made possible with the support and funding of SAP, TIPS, Vodacom, The Department of Basic Education, Department of Science and Technology, Meraka Institute and Kumba Development Fund. The findings from the study have attracted attention from organisations such as the HSRC, Finmark Trust, Soul City and the National Planning Commission and are available to interested parties (please email adele@in-fusion.co.za).

With the New Year comes a barrage of new opportunities and the Infusion team are already hard at work on custom-built projects and the planning for a continued partnership with CDI.  The CCS 2012 data is rich and further investigation using the data set is planned, as well as expanding the study with more sites and additional dimensions.
